Privacy Notice

Bristol City Council is the data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 and other regulations including the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), which means it determines what your data is used for and why it is collected. The purpose of this privacy notice is to tell you about what information we collect about you when you use our service, how we use that information and who we may share it with.

What data we need to collect and the legal basis for processing it:

To deliver this service, we will collect the following information from residents: name, email, address, postcode, telephone and locations they are concerned about road safety.

This will be used to contact the individual help them get in touch with Avon and Somerset Constabulary to address their road safety concerns and assess whether the Community SpeedWatch scheme could help improve the road safety in their neighbourhood.

We are collecting this data because it is in the public interest to process this in order to help you to set up Community SpeedWatch sessions at the locations you have highlighted to us.

Why we need to collect your data:

We will use this information for raising road safety concerns and facilitating communication between you and Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

Who we share your data with and why:

On occasions an individual’s data may be shared between our partner organisations, Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Bristol City Council if there is a need to contact an individual directly to discuss the scheme. The partner organisation will request consent from the individual prior to this and forward this consent on to Bristol City Council.

How long we will keep your data for:

The period of time that we will hold this data for will be determined by the timeframe required by our partner university to analyse the findings following the completion of the current scheme (funded by Department for Transport Access funding) in March 2021.

Why we need to collect your data:

This data will be anonymised and then disclosed to the University of the West of England (UWE) so that they can analyse the success of the scheme. Data entered on the Bristol 20mph web pages (operated by WordPress) hosted on Bristol Designs UK based Dedicated Server with UKFast. This privacy notice will be updated at this time to reflect changes in the regulations.

If we have your consent to use your data:

You are freely able to withdraw your consent for us to process your information at any given time by emailing 20mph@bristol.gov.uk, and your personal details will be removed from our database. Please note that registered CSW volunteers will need to contact Avon & Somerset Constabulary in relation to data on their database, by emailing: CommunitySpeedWatch@avonandsomerset.police.uk

We got this data from Avon & Somerset Constabulary. The data we have is Personal data.

Your rights as a data subject:

You have the right to ask for access to your data and where data is found to be inaccurate to have that data corrected. In certain circumstances you have the right to have data held about you erased, or the use of it restricted. You may be able to object to processing and may also have the right to have your data transferred to another data controller.

You also have a right of complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at www.ico.org.uk if you think we have not dealt with your information in a proper manner.
